Why Tires Matter When Considering Car Safety

Importance of Car Tires

Many vehicles on the road today are equipped with more safety features than most people can even count. From forward-collision warnings and pedestrian detection to rear cameras that allow you to look behind you without even turning around, your car, truck, or SUV is likely jam-packed with all kinds of features that are specifically designed to keep you safe.

You might be surprised to hear that one of the most important safety features is also one of the most basic: the tires.

Most people don’t necessarily spend much time thinking about their tires or the role they play when it comes to safety, but good tires are of the utmost importance when trying to keep yourself and your passengers safe.

Tires often prevent you from slipping and sliding on the road when it’s wet. They will also endure very warm temperatures and keep their shape at all times so that they don’t present problems for you on the road. The tread that’s on your tires will make it easy for you to stop on a dime. Whether you’re hitting the brakes to avoid hitting another car, a person, or an animal, you want a tire with great treads so that stopping quickly isn’t an issue. Good tires often prevent accidents or can at least help reduce your chances of getting into them.

For all of these reasons, you need to make sure that you take good care of your tires. You should inflate them properly to reduce the risk of a blowout or a flat. You should also check the inflation once a month as the tires are constantly losing air through normal use. You should also inspect your tires periodically to see if they might need to be replaced, since old tires can struggle to keep up with your demands and make your vehicle unsafe. Rotating your tires regularly is a great idea as well. It will allow for even wear and keep your tires running longer.
